Antony Makatu, better known as Tony Mactony from Makwarela in Thohoyandou, Limpopo is the latest South African actor to make his mark on television. He joined SABC2’s telenovela Pimville as Detective Temudzani.
The show replaced the long-running Muvhango. He was mentored by Atandwa Kani at the John Kani Performing Arts school. He has appeared in local hits such as Giyani Land of Blood, The Black Door, Inimba, Shaka Elembe, and Kokota.
“Playing Detective Temudzani is a dream come true,” he says. “I’m enjoying every moment.”
Tony is also the founder of MAC97 Media and Actors Academy. He trains and mentors young actors. “My goal is to put other people’s stories out there,” he says. “I want to share what I’ve learned and help the next generation of actors.”
A graduate in film and TV production, Tony believes in starting where you are and working hard. “Restart with what you have,” he says. “You can’t start where you think you should be. You start where you are and grow from there.”
Tony’s combination of on-screen talent and mentorship work makes him a rising force in South African entertainment. Catch him as Detective Temudzani on Pimville, Monday to Friday at 9 AM on SABC2.
