If there’s one thing audiences can always count on from Moshe Ndiki, it’s uncontrollable laughter served with a generous dose of heartfelt moments.
The comedian and TV personality is back doing what he does best, entertaining Mzansi while keeping it real, as he takes on hosting duties for Mgidi Moms.
Known for his sharp humour and larger-than-life personality, Ndiki says returning to Mzansi Magic feels deeply personal.
“Being back on Mzansi Magic feels like returning home. It’s where all my dreams started and continue to live out. It feels so familiar,” he said, adding that he remains a huge admirer of how the channel continues to grow its local content.
Ndiki revealed that the decision to host Mgidi Moms was an easy one.
“I said yes because it’s a fantastic concept, and it’s about time we see content told by us, for us.”
The show follows mothers as they prepare traditional mgidi celebrations, a rite of passage for their sons. For Ndiki, being part of the series stirred memories of his own initiation journey.
“It reminded me of my personal journey when I went through this rite of passage in 2009. Watching it unfold felt like seeing it through my own mother’s eyes, the stress, the hope, trying to make everything come together. It’s special being part of these celebrations and what they mean to families.”
He describes his time with the moms, their sons, and extended families as nothing short of phenomenal.
“It really shows how welcoming we South Africans are. Everywhere I went, I felt embraced and treated like one of their own. Genuine bonds were formed, and so many beautiful memories were created.”
Beyond the laughter, Mgidi Moms places women at the centre of the story, something Ndiki believes is long overdue.
“It’s about time we show the strength of women, the work and character it takes to coordinate everything and bring families together. These moms adore their sons and will stop at nothing to achieve the perfect mgidi.”
Ndiki also admits the experience taught him a few things about himself.
“I learned that I adapt very easily and that I’m a crybaby! But most importantly, I’ll always value strong family traditions.”
He believes the show offers more than just entertainment.
“We’re celebrating traditions, the pressure behind pulling off big events, and honouring the mothers who make it all happen. It’s culturally rich, beautifully shot, and well presented. It’s more than a show, it’s a moment.”
Mgidi Moms premieres on 29 March, with new episodes airing every Sunday at 6pm on Mzansi Magic.
