Three suspects linked to the murder of 22-year-old Uber driver Isaac Satlat appeared for the first time at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Police say the driver, a 22-year-old Nigerian national, was overpowered inside his vehicle after picking up a man and a woman who had requested the ride.
The hijacked vehicle and the driver’s body were later found in Atteridgeville on the same day. Satlat was allegedly strangled after giving the lift. The suspects were reportedly captured on video during the incident. Investigations into the circumstances of the murder are ongoing.
National E-hailing Federation of South Africa (NEFSA) spokesperson Tella Masakale commended the police for a swift response.
“We strongly condemn the horrific murder. What we have done as NEFSA is we’ve mobilised our members in Gauteng to attend the court hearing this morning at Atteridgeville Court so that we can demand that the suspect be incarcerated. We also welcome swift action by SAPS,” Masakale said.
