Three people have died and another has sustained critical injuries following a head-on collision between two light motor vehicles on the R81 near Kotishing in Limpopo on Saturday 21 March. According to the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, the crash occurred after the market area before Kotishing on the route from Polokwane.
The accident resulted in three fatalities at the scene, while one person was critically injured. One of the vehicles involved was burnt beyond recognition, leading to the closure of one lane. Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety spokesperson Mashudu Mabata confirmed the incident and urged motorists to exercise caution.
“One lane is currently closed to traffic as one of the vehicles was burned beyond recognition. Motorists are urged to approach the scene with extreme caution and to expect delays,” said Mabata.
Traffic officers are on site managing the situation and ensuring the safety of road users. Motorists travelling along the R81 have been advised to expect delays. The department has urged all motorists to drive responsibly and to prioritise road safety at all times.
