The Limpopo provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has ordered that the investigation into the death of local artist Nel Baitsi Molimisi, popularly known as “Dr Nel”, be expedited. Molimisi, 31, was found lying on the road along Ga-Seleka Phetogo Drive in Botshabelo village within the Tom Burke policing area in the early hours of Sunday, 2 November 2025.

Police said officers were summoned to the scene at about 4am after reports of a man lying in the roadway. On arrival, they found Molimisi lying face down in a critical condition. He was later declared dead at the scene by Witpoort EMS personnel.

Preliminary information indicates that Molimisi had been performing at the grand opening of a local pub earlier that morning. The vehicle allegedly involved in the incident remains unknown. The circumstances that led to his death are still under investigation.

The case, initially handled by Waterberg district detectives, has now been transferred to the Provincial Investigation Unit. The team is led by Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Major General Venitia Masingi, as part of efforts to intensify and speed up the investigation.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the provincial commissioner wants all aspects of the case thoroughly examined. “The Provincial Commissioner has directed that this investigation be expedited to ensure that all circumstances surrounding Mr Molimisi’s death are fully established. We appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to come forward and assist the police,” said Ledwaba.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is urged to contact the investigating officer, Colonel Richard Boshomane, on 079 894 5501 or the nearest police station. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or via the MySAPS app.

Investigations are continuing.
