Illegal cross-border bus stopped as Musina crackdown intensifiesA bus carrying 51 passengers from Zimbabwe was impounded in Musina after traffic officials found it was unroadworthy and operating illegally. The vehicle was stopped during a provincial traffic operation by the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety. Officials said the bus was transporting passengers for reward without a valid operating permit.
Passengers were not allowed to continue their journey in the vehicle. Authorities assisted them to find alternative transport.
The bus is now being held at the Musina Traffic Control Centre weighbridge while investigations continue.
The operation forms part of intensified law enforcement efforts to improve road safety and ensure compliance with transport laws across the province.
In a separate development, officials impounded seven sedan vehicles, commonly known as “4+1” taxis, over the past four days. These vehicles were also found to be operating illegally without the required permits. The department warned operators against illegal transport activities, saying they put passengers at risk and undermine regulated public transport systems.
“The safety of passengers remains our top priority. All operators must comply with the law or face the full might of enforcement,” the department said.
Officials have praised law enforcement teams for their vigilance, especially during a busy travel period.
The department urged all road users and public transport operators to ensure vehicles are roadworthy and properly licensed at all times.
