Police in Hoedspruit have arrested four men after a high-speed chase led to the recovery of a suspected stolen vehicle, an unlicensed firearm and a protected animal carcass in Limpopo. The arrests were made on Friday morning, 27 March along the R36 near Manoutsa Park after police received a tip-off about a vehicle believed to have been stolen.
Officers tracked the vehicle travelling from Ohrigstad towards Tunnel Plaza and gave chase. During the pursuit, the vehicle collided with another car. Four suspects, aged between 22 and 47, were arrested at the scene. Police found a firearm with ammunition, a bush knife and a porcupine carcass inside the vehicle.
The vehicle had been reported hijacked earlier this month in the Ritavi policing area. Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said police acted swiftly on intelligence. “Members received information about a suspected stolen vehicle and immediately operationalised it, leading to the arrest of the suspects,” said Ledwaba.
He added that the arrests form part of ongoing efforts to tackle serious crime in the province. “These arrests demonstrate our continued commitment to addressing serious and violent crime, including vehicle-related crimes and illegal activities involving protected species,” he said.
