Five people have died and two others were seriously injured in a crash on the N1-25 near Boekenhout in the Waterberg District on Wednesday morning, 1 April. The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety said the accident happened at about 07:45 on 1 April 2026 and involved three vehicles.
According to the department, a Renault light motor vehicle allegedly made a U-turn on the freeway, leading to a head-on collision with a Ford light delivery vehicle and a Toyota light delivery vehicle. Two male drivers and three occupants from one of the vehicles died at the scene. Two passengers sustained serious injuries and were taken to FH Odendaal Hospital for treatment. Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC Violet Mathye expressed shock at the incident and extended condolences to the families of the victims.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives in this tragic accident. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those who have passed away,” said Mathye. She also wished those injured a speedy recovery. The department said reckless driving is suspected to be the cause of the crash, with the possibility that alcohol may have been a factor.
