Hugo Broos has announced a 38-man preliminary squad for South Africa national soccer team ahead of international friendly matches against the Panama national football team later this month.
The squad forms part of South Africa’s preparations for upcoming international competitions and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The national team will assemble for camp from 23 March to 1 April.
Bafana Bafana will host Panama in two friendly matches. The first will be played at Moses Mabida Stadium in Durban on 27 March. The second match will take place at DHL Stadium in Cape Town on 31 March.
The provisional squad includes several regulars in the national team set-up. Among them are captain Ronwen Williams, midfielder Teboho Mokoena, playmaker Themba Zwane and striker Lyle Foster.
A number of emerging players have also been included as Broos continues to build depth in the squad. These include Relebohile Mofokeng, Oswin Appollis and Jayden Adams.
Defender Olwethu Makhanya, who plays in the United States, and Ime Okon, currently playing in Germany, are among the overseas-based players named in the squad.
Other players selected include Iqraam Rayners, Evidence Makgopa and Patrick Maswanganyi.
The preliminary squad is expected to be trimmed before the team assembles for camp later this month. The two friendlies will give Broos an opportunity to assess players and test combinations as Bafana Bafana prepare for future international competitions
