The body of 36-year-old Somali businessman Ali Nur was recovered in Manini on Friday, 13 February, nearly a month after he and his assistant were swept away by the Dzindi River during heavy flooding.
Nur and his assistant went missing on 17 January while attempting to cross the swollen river at Tswinga Bridge in a bakkie carrying stock for Nur’s shop. Within days, only the mangled wreck of the bakkie was recovered. Reports indicate that Nur was initially spotted by a man who was fishing. While police have not yet officially confirmed the discovery, the rescue team has retrieved the body.
The news brings a mix of relief and sorrow for Nur’s family. It remains unconfirmed whether his assistant was with him at the time of the incident.
